In 1988 Val first heard about the path of Self Realization from her good friend Diana Jorgensen who had been studying the teaching of Paramhansa Yogananda since 1982. Together they became interested in Hatha Yoga and started visiting the Expanding Light at Ananda Village in 1998 becoming members of Ananda's Church of Self Realization and taking their discipleship in 1999. They were both initiated into Kriya Yoga in 2005. Val then continued on to become a certified Ananda Meditation Teacher in 1999 and then studied abroad with the Ananda College of Living Wisdom attending the World Cultures and Consciousness program in Peru and Egypt - 2008 to 2009. More recently she completed the Bridge to Ananda Yoga Program and is currently working towards her Level 2 Ananda Yoga Instructor Certification.

Val has been an inspiration to me. I attended an Ananda weekend with her at the meditation retreat at Ananda Village a few years ago and I still have such a great feeling when I think of my experiences with her. The weekend was incredible, Val guided meditations during our visit including a walking meditation. Val is so approachable and easy to talk to, I learned so much from her during that particular weekend. I also attended her Ananda meditation group in Reno, Nevada and that was such a joy in my life. I learned the Ananda technique of meditation and it is the only method that is able to quiet my busy mind. I still drop Val a line now and then when I have a question of the spiritual nature. I can't say enough about her quiet, beautiful, fun, loving energy and it's a blessing to have been a part of her classes. Tracy U
